The History of Geometric Sculpture

Geometric sculpture is derived from a tradition of abstraction. The formal rise of the phenomenon began in the early 20th century, coinciding with movements like Cubism and Constructivism.

British artist Jonathan Page works with ceramics to produce symbolic forms in a minimalist style, referencing nature and elements of art history. His piece, Geometry (2016), depicts the Surrealist icon of the lobster through large and exaggerated shapes – portraying nature through simplified, yet complex structure.

Taking a different approach to abstracting form in geometric sculpture, Serbian artist Marko Markovic creates figurative sculptures formed from plaster, wood and metal.
