Beginnings and Influences of Sara Hoque
Born in North Yorkshire to a Norwegian mother and a British/Bengali father, Sara Hoque benefited from a nomadic and multicultural upbringing. The artist draws inspiration from many of her works in the dreams and memories of childhood travels to unusual and enchanting places, as well as from her time in Wales and Norway. Sara Hoque studied fine arts at Kingston University in London. Since graduating, the artist has lived in London.
Inspiration and Practice
Attracted by surrealist notions of consciousness, transcendence, and the sublime, Sara Hoque blurs the boundaries between reality and dreams by mixing familiar images with vibrant colors and overflowing shapes. Fantastic elements integrate into abstract and free narratives, creating scenes that transport you to supernatural places.
Exhibitions and Press
Sara Hoque has exhibited her evocative landscape paintings at The Other Art Fair in London, among other exhibitions. The artist currently resides on a 40-foot houseboat. While navigating the canals of London, she continues to produce enchanting works to reclaim the power and mystery of the places she first discovered in her childhood.
