Painter and illustrator. Born to a South African artist and an African American musician, Leila was raised in South Africa and currently works from her studio in the Cape.
Attended The JHB National School of the Arts Johannesburg, trained in graphic design and water-colour painting. Current medium is oil and oil pastel on wood and canvas. Exhibits in annual group exhibitions locally and recently…Show more in New York at the Harlem Fine Arts Show. Headline artist for four years taking part in Solo Studio's, an annual fine art event in South Africa. Received a Highly Commended in the UK Rise Art competition 2018.
Her process is intuitive - in both figurative and non-figurative works. Having been raised in a family of women, presents an unapologetically, feminine perspective. Her application, choice of mediums and skill developed as a result of a continuous quest for experiential learning.

"Leila’s paintings with central figures either silhouetted or dominant sit in a fantastical landscape of exoticism. Utilising plants and or motifs in the backdrop and use of perspective and colour she creates Trompe L’Oil tableaux. One can see a correlation between her work and that of the photographer Ruud van Empel but while he employs vivid bright colours, her use of both bright and muted tones creates a dreamlike state."
