"Leila’s paintings with central figures either silhouetted or dominant sit in a fantastical landscape of exoticism. Utilising plants and or motifs in the backdrop and use of perspective and colour she creates Trompe L’Oil tableaux. One can see a correlation between her work and that of the photographer Ruud van Empel but while he employs vivid bright colours, her use of both bright and muted tones creates a dreamlike state."
