Benjamin West

Born in 1974 in the United Kingdom, Benjamin West is a British artist who works at the forefront of collage and photography.

His work draws from nature as a central theme, relying on a range of intriguing sources from ancient scientific manuals to botanical drawings to explore questions about our relationship with nature and the environment around us.

In a sense, his work has an implied (/fr/art/politique) politics, given that it encourages the viewer to reconsider how they interact with the natural environment and the effects that human activity has on the planet.

The Career of Benjamin West

Benjamin was born in Alton and moved to London to study for his BA in Graphic & Media Design at the London College of Communication. This graphic influence is evident in his work, where contrasting images of nature and machines are crafted with mathematical precision.

Since his studies, he has exhibited his photographic collages across the country and has worked on numerous projects addressing environmental issues such as pollution and the changing face of Great Britain.

Exhibitions

You will find Benjamin's work in solo and group exhibitions across the country. In a solo exhibition at the Willesden Gallery, he explored the interaction between the themes of "Urban" and "Landscape", and he has also featured in a group exhibition at the Masham Gallery in North Yorkshire.
