From Reality to Imagination
In the painting of Virginie Bastié, reality is a starting point and gently slides towards a dreamed and intuitive reality. She starts from a photo, an idea as an anchor to then move towards another reality that represents an inner journey that comes like a veil to juxtapose and transform the initial image into the imaginary; nature and timelessness are very present in her painting. A blend of sensations buried in her memory.
The artist works at the edge of abstraction by mixing areas that are much more figurative. The blur and the clear allow her to represent the subtle boundary between her lived experience and her imagination. Virginie likes to segment her canvases by playing with the sparkle obtained through luminous stains.
Reflections
Space and composition are constantly in motion throughout her work. The technique of oil allows her to work with fluidity as well as material. Sometimes she lays and works on her canvas on the ground to obtain a broader vision of the colored masses and to have a more generic perspective. In front of the work, the artist hopes to lead the viewer along the same journey while traveling towards their own story.
