Norfolk based artist, Claire Cansick, is directly inspired by nature.
Her paintings explore the natural world, whether in harmony or flux, the changing climate and weather events. Her work plays with recessive colour and compositional elements to create a sense of place, mood, interaction and experience, while tracing her path through land or sea.
Claire's work starts with her own photos or charcoal sketches, working quickly initially before discarding the source material, and letting the oil paint take over. Her work loosely forms series of paintings, with an evolving but tight colour palette bridging between them. Currently she is embarking on seascapes, embodying themes of self, history and our relationship to nature.
Recent exhibitions include Mepaintsme, Jacksons Prize Exhibition 2024, New English Art Club and the much revered Silent Disco curated by Graham Crowley.
Her work is part of the Government Art Collection, UK.
Solo exhibitions include Firstsite in 2023, Chappel Galleries 2020 & 23, Old School Gallery 2024. A career highlight is having three major works in critically acclaimed A World of Water at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich 2025. Her work exhibited there alongside artistic giants such as Maggi Hambling, Margaret Mellis, and Eva Rothschild, amongst others.
