Emerging Artist
Ta Byrne
Ta Byrne features in private collections in over 40 countries across the world.
Ta’s unique style combines elements of cubism, modernism and abstract art.
Ta names Van Gogh and Picasso as some of her key influences.

Born in 1974, Ta Byrne is a Thai artist who lives and works on the island of Koh Samui, off the south coast of Thailand. Working in oil, Ta Byrne’s dreamlike paintings are vibrant, eye-catching and packed with humour.

Byrne’s figurative paintings abstract the human form, distorting her figures with a cartoonish style and unexpected juxtapositions. Ta Byrne’s imaginative compositions combine elements of modernism with her own unique viewpoint. You can find Ta Byrne art for sale on Rise Art.

Ta Byrne’s Artistic Journey and Early Career

Byrne was raised in the rural outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand. At twelve, the artist left school to work in the rice fields and later sewed shirts in a Bangkok sweatshop. During this time Byrne met a street artist who invited her to his studio. With no formal training, she began to show interest in modern art and was inspired by Cubism.

Byrne names Van Gogh and Picasso as two of her key influences. The artist later joined a collective at the Samui Art Gallery to work with, and produce, modern Thai art.

Ta Byrne’s Contemporary Surrealism

Inspired by Surrealism, Ta Byrne’s whimsical art combines the everyday with unexpected elements. The artist focuses on the human form with abstract, theatrical and humorous additions.

Ta Byrne artistically bridges the gap between modernity and the contemporary. While the artist’s fragmented composition in Screams for Peace (2023), for example, echoes Picasso’s Guernica (1937), the cartoonish style and unexpected additions give the painting a contemporary surreal twist.

Notable Collections and Exhibitions

The artist’s paintings have featured in private collections across 67 countries, ranging from Australia to Spain, Hong Kong to Malibu Beach.

Ta Byrne’s symbolic art has garnered worldwide acclaim, and the artist has enjoyed solo exhibitions across the globe, most recently at Six Senses Gallery in Koh Samui in 2022.
