Linda Coppens

LINDA COPPENS'S EARLY CAREER AND CREATIVE INFLUENCES

Born in 1956, Linda has been passionate about art from an early age, though she pursued her artistic path more fully later in life. After completing an MA in Psychology, she studied Drawing and Painting at the Art Academy in Liedekerke (Belgium), where she developed her focus on abstraction. Her background in psychology continues to inform her work, particularly in the way each painting evolves through layers, memory, and intuitive response.

PRACTICE

Coppens works without a fixed plan, allowing each painting to emerge through a process of building, adjusting, and refining. Earlier works often developed through layering and density, while her more recent paintings move toward greater clarity and restraint. By reducing the number of elements, she allows each gesture to carry more weight. Areas of open space become as important as the marks themselves, creating compositions that feel both calm and quietly dynamic. Her paintings are not about a fixed image, but about an experience - one that unfolds gradually and invites the viewer to return.

Linda Coppens has exhibited internationally, including in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Senegal, the United States, and Spain. Her work is held in private collections worldwide. She lives and works in Spain.
