Yoann Bonneville YBA
Attracted to the artistic process from a very young age, he quickly turned to urban arts
Seeking to decipher our emotions, our perspectives, our freedom, our era and our society, portraiture naturally became central to his approach
YBA does not merely represent a subject, but rather what unites us all: life and its whirlwind that carries us away

The artistic approach of Yoann Bonneville is rooted in a profound reflection on identity, trace, and memory. Through a resolutely contemporary practice, he explores the portrait as a space for expressing human complexity and the beauty of the living.

An In-Depth Practice of Portraiture

The three letters Y, B, and A - initials of his artist name - are not just a signature: they form the very structure of the face. Integrated into the composition, they outline the essential lines of the gaze, the mouth, and the contours. Through this graphic process, Yoann questions the relationship between form and meaning, between the sign and the subject. Each face becomes a construction both symbolic and corporeal, where the identity of the artist is inscribed within that of the other.

His Technique

His work stands out for a fine exploration of color and light. The artist plays with shades, varying the same hue in multiple nuances to reveal the emotional depth of the face. The chromatic harmonies - sometimes soft, sometimes contrasted - convey a tension between calmness and intensity, between presence and erasure. This mastery of tone and gradient gives his portraits an almost tactile dimension, where color becomes breath.

The brush plays an essential role in his creative process. Through gestures that are sometimes broad, sometimes precise, Yoann constructs the material and rhythm of the canvas. The brush strokes, deliberately visible, embody the movement of time, the fragility of gesture, and the vitality of the living. They contribute to this aesthetic of truth, where emotion takes precedence over perfection.

By combining the rigor of the sign with the freedom of gesture, Yoann Bonneville develops a unique pictorial language that is both sensitive and thoughtful. His faces do not represent: they embody. They become the site of a meeting between oneself and the world, a poetic exploration of what connects us beyond appearances.
