Tori Tipton is an oil painter who lives and works in Yorkshire. She's at her happiest with her walking boots on and a map in hand, exploring the rugged beauty of the British coastline. When out walking she takes in her surroundings, absorbing the atmosphere of a place and it is this connection to nature that creates a direct relationship between her source of inspiration and the easel. These captured moments join her memories and as such her work becomes an amalgamation of recollections and more recent observations and experiences which, when returning to the studio, translate into atmospheric sea and landscape paintings.
Tori's work begins as an exploration of the horizon and the interplay between the land, sea and sky. This emerges from many layers of oil paint which give her paintings substance and texture. By focusing on the energy of a place rather than an actual representation her aim is to suggest a sense of solitude and contemplation. Rather than informing the viewer of the location that inspires a painting she prefers them to make their own interpretation and offer them a chance to pause and reflect on the memories and emotions that may be evoked.
Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries nationwide and her works are included in private collections in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
