Nick Offer

Nick Offer is a multi award winning painter who lives and works in Canberra, Australia. He was educated at Edinburgh College of Art (BA) and Winchester School of Art (MA) and subsequently based himself in Barcelona and Ghent before settling in Australia. Nick creates compelling self-contained worlds, composed of assemblies of disparate imagery first collaged and then transformed into paintings. He allows the paint - applied randomly and freely in the early stages - to dictate the structure and rhythm of his works.

Nick Offer's Style and Practice

Nick has recently started applying the varied approach he takes to his figurative work to a new series of landscapes. He has become_ _drawn to painting these mainly as a way of exploring a sense of the animal histories (mainly human) that have shaped and scarred them, using a range of approaches and tools (rollers, spray paint, ink, silicon, stencils, scrapers etc.) to achieve this. He is also interested in the anthropomorphic potential of terrain - how large vistas can convey a sense of a living creature which is beyond topography. He is engaged in trying to convey this as viscerally as possible.

Exhibitions and Collections

Nick has exhibited widely in Australia, UK and abroad. He has been a finalist in numerous art competitions globally including 'Figurative Art Now' and 'The Lynn Painter Stainers Prize' both at the Mall Galleries, London and The National Contemporary Art Prize, Canberra where he has twice been 'highly commended' (2023,2024). He won Australia's prestigious $20,000 Doyles Landscape Award in 2024 and in the same year received special mention at the Lethbridge Landscape Award (Brisbane). Two of his recent paintings are owned by the ruler of Dubai and Princess Haya of Jordan.
