KA Bird

KA Bird is a visual artist based in Newcastle, UK. Using digital media to inform her print-making and painting, her practice investigates the human in technology, and the technological in the human within the all-out integration of internet and world.

Bird represents an eerie atmosphere, through scenes where the familiar has been disturbed. She depicts situations unsettled by suspicion that something exceeding the scene is acting upon events. Built from found images, pirated films and bootlegged VHS pornography, transposed to canvas through cycles of projection, stencilling, and airbrush glazing. Bird’s paintings are situated within a culture increasingly organised through monitoring, categorising, predicting and steering human behaviour.

She received her MA with distinction in Fine Art from Teesside University, and was awarded the School of Arts & Media Prize. She received a place on the Collective Studio Development Program at The NewBridge Project, where she is a current studio holder. Her work has been exhibited across the UK, including in public institutions, featured in editorials, and is held in private collections internationally.
