Mike Fernandez is a Los Angeles–based mixed-media artist working under OJOSEXO STUDIO. Inspired by design and its underlying systems, his work reflects a clean, constructed visual language grounded in composition and surface.
Working within the evolving body of work he calls Formworks, Fernandez builds with pieces. Morning meditations transform hand-cut cardstock into small, intimate compositions—balancing color, weight, and negative space. The language is clear and graphic: color carries feeling, geometry sets the tempo.
Using organic and architectural forms as building blocks, these collages serve as templates for larger-scale paintings in acrylic and plaster, where flat compositions expand into dimensional forms.
Raised in California, Fernandez exhibited alongside his ceramicist father at age eleven—an early influence on his sensitivity to shape, color, and form. After studying fine arts and spending nearly a decade in New York as an editorial hairstylist, he is now based in Los Angeles, balancing his work as an on-set hair and makeup artist with his art and design studio.
