The invisible exists. Our memories, our emotions, our scars structure who we are without being visible. Alina Schiau paints to reveal these layers. She overlays oil in successive layers. Some colors come through, others fade without disappearing. What has been covered remains present — like our buried experiences that resurface or blur but never really fade away.

The Power of Color

Color is her tool of exploration. A blue next to a yellow does not vibrate like a blue next to a red. It transforms according to its context. Our emotions work the same way: they change according to what surrounds them. Her canvases create spaces where these resonances become visible. Between order and chaos, between control of technique and the unpredictability of chromatic dialogues, her work carries this duality that runs through all existence.

Her Journey

Alina Schiau (born in 1982, Romania) lives and works in Paris. Welcomed in Switzerland at the age of 2 as a political refugee, she has been devoted to abstract painting since 2019. Her technique of successive oil overlays embodies her exploration of multiple identities: each layer overlaps, dialogues, reveals itself, or fades away. Her journey — from forced exile to chosen artistic freedom — structures a pictorial research on the layers that constitute us. Recent solo exhibitions: Spectra (2025) and Prisms (2024), Galerie Partage, Lyon. Represented by ACID Gallery (Lille), Rise Art, and Partage (Lyon).
