Mats Pehrson is an artist using his experiences of metropolitan environments into his art, mainly from New York where he lived for more than 30 years. His oil paintings can be viewed upon as a social documentation of contemporary everyday life. He is autodidact but his development towards his artistry includes classes at School of Visual Arts in New York and studies with South Korean art professor Young Kwon. He was a member of Noho Gallery, one of the oldest and most respected artist-led galleries in New York, where he both showed and curated shows. He was also showing his work at Newel Galleries, NY.
He resides in Stockholm since 2024 with a studio at Årsta Partihallar. After returning he has exhibited with Galleri Jan Wallmark at Karlavägen 9 with a show titled “CitiScapes”. He also got commissioned by Jensen Education, creating a large painting in honor of a student, innocently killed by gang violence. In addition he created prints for an annual award in the name of the student.
He is represented in institutions and private collections in both Europe and the United States.
