New & Noteworthy Artist
Andre Schulze
André Schulze is a German abstract painter influenced by old architecture and Eastern European landscapes.
André is known for transforming realistic oil paintings into surrealist situations with a touch of irony and humour.
André has received multiple scholarships for his original works.

André Schulze (1982) is an artist and painting conservator from Dresden, Germany working in two different worlds: his internationally succesful Vintage series and his Contemporary series. He studied fine arts and graduated with diploma in his hometown Dresden/Germany in 2011.

A second life for old paintings

In his Vintage series, André Schulze invites viewers on a fascinating journey through art history and contemporary reinterpretation. His works reimagine iconic images with irony and precision. An insightful nod to the digital age and the mythologization of old masters. Alongside his globally sought-after pixelated bouquets, which have fetched high prices at auctions, Schulze presents historical paintings that he meticulously reworks, giving them new meaning and bringing them into the present.

The artist uses old original paintings from private collectors, antique- and thift stores. He thoroughly restores the often badly damaged old paintings, before he is painting them with his art. Through the restoration of the artworks and his modern interpretation, he is seeing his work as a second life for forgotten artworks and make them accessible to the public. In his art he tries to treat the paintings with respect and not to destroy them. He wants to enrich the paintings with his art and associate them with our present time.

In his contemporary series, i.e., paintings on white canvas, he addresses various themes. These include motifs from the world of cycling, German architecture and landscape, as well as abstract paintings. The artist has become particularly well known in Germany for his Caspar David Friedrich series, on which he has been working continuously since 2022. Similar to his vintage series, he combines the art of the Romantics with our modern era. Through subtle and humorous details or reinterpretations, he gives old masters a contemporary makeover.
