Andrea Plaza

Andrea Plaza Carrasco, known professionally as Anplac, is a multidisciplinary artist and entrepreneur based in France. Born in Buenos Aires to Chilean parents on 6 August 1976, her artistic practice is deeply rooted in the Arts & Crafts movement, Art Deco, and Latin American folk craftsmanship.

Her technique

Anplac's creative journey is an exploration of marine imaginary landscapes, emotional cartography, and healing processes. Her distinctive artistic methodology involves layering textures with acrylic and gouache, employing an innovative technique where freshly painted canvases are adhered to plastic and allowed to dry. Upon peeling, the fabric retains a mesmerising plastic-like effect, creating rich, surprising textures that interconnect her artworks across time. Her palette celebrates warm, vibrant colours, designed to create a visually stimulating environment. Each composition aims to convey rhythmic sensations, with Anplac embodying an organic element that maintains a profound unity with the natural world.

The movement

In 2024, she launched "Dancefloors: Grounds for the Body's Revolt", a choreographed collection that establishes a dynamic dialogue between corporeal movement, emotional landscapes, and colour. By integrating her daily dance practice into her painting process, she captures deeply authentic, sensory moments of bodily expression. Her "matterns" – intuitive fabric collages composed of layered colours and textures – represent a meditative practice that transcends traditional painting. Inspired by quilt-making traditions, these works bear witness to emotional freedom, where personal narratives merge into a broader, shared human experience.

The sea as inspiration

The ongoing "Carnets de Mer" series, initiated in 2020, represents her dedication to marine environments. Through long, contemplative walks, Anplac connects intimately with oceanic landscapes, observing the resilient colours of sky and sea. Returning to her studio inspired, she composes vibrant seascapes: imaginary dancing seaweeds, joyful wildflowers, and intricate textural backgrounds that pulse with life and emotion.
