Katharina Obermaier’s artistic practice centers on drawing and painting as a means of reflecting lived experience. Rooted in everyday observations, her works unfold like visual diary entries that translate emotions, thoughts, and perceived situations into painterly form. Recurring themes include the questioning of female stereotypes, the search for contemporary female role models, and an ongoing exploration of her immediate environment.
Her process begins with spontaneous drawings that function as an intuitive and direct mode of inquiry. Working predominantly in series, Obermaier follows an open, process-based approach in which motifs and ideas develop organically rather than toward a fixed outcome.
Selected drawings are subsequently transformed into paintings, where color assumes a central role. Through naïve, figurative, and deliberately playful visual language combined with a bold and confident palette, she foregrounds subtle scenes and moments that often remain overlooked.
Born in Rosenheim in 1987, Obermaier studied art education at LMU Munich, graduating in 2018. She lives and works as a freelance artist and book illustrator, regularly participating in regional exhibitions in and around Munich and Rosenheim. In 2021, she was awarded the “Young Art” prize by the city of Wasserburg am Inn.
