Kate's approach to painting has always been process driven. A fast conversation between mark and response allowing subconscious narrative to bubble up through the layers. Works often teeter somewhere between abstraction and figuration, on the brink of knowable.
“I’ve learnt my process invariably leads to a kind of enigmatic self-portrait making. The resulting work is at root my desire to render as authentically as possible what it is to be me; a human - in a house of blood and bones with its internal light show of chemicals firing chaotic highs and lows.”
Kate studied Fine Art at Cardiff and Wimbledon School of Art graduating in 1996. She paints from her home studio in South Wales.
Kate has participated as a judge in the Irving Open and the Cardiff MADE Solo Award and her curatorial work includes 'Back To My Trees' at Terrace, London. She has been shortlisted for Jackson's Art Prize and the Beep Biennial and is a regular exhibitor at the RWA's Annual Autumn Open. In 2022 Kate was awarded a Create Grant by the Welsh Arts Council and in 2024 attended a 4 month Celf Cymru funded Print Residency. She frequently exhibits her work across galleries in England and Wales and her work is held in private collections worldwide.
