Kate Mayer is a London-based abstract artist whose paintings are created to be felt as much as seen.
Guided by the belief that energy cannot be destroyed, only transformed, her works carry a distinct energetic charge that shifts the atmosphere of a space as well as its appearance. Her intention is to create environments that support emotional wellbeing, recognising how deeply our mental state is shaped by what surrounds us.
Her process is rooted in rhythm and sound. Mayer paints in response to spoken word, music, and bespoke soundscapes, using them to reach a particular feeling and enter a flow state. From this, she translates vibration into layered colour and form. Her circular compositions act as portals; immersive fields that invite reflection, transformation, and presence.
Originally from the far north of England, Mayer has made London her home for nearly three decades. Self-taught, she came to painting later in life following a successful design career and a period of profound personal change. Recent highlights include her solo exhibition Glow Up at 54 The Gallery, Mayfair (January 2025), a current solo showcase at COYA Mayfair, and selection as a finalist in the 2025 VAA Artist of the Year Award.
