Silent enigmas, the traces, the imprints, and the scars of time question and inspire Marie-Hélène Carcanague. The appearance of rocks, the old decrepit walls painted many times, the bark of trees, the oxidized metals, the scribbles and the graffiti… For her, each surface is a memory and tells a story.
After years of professional photography, painting has led her to a more personal, more "rugged," intuitive, almost primitive writing. She loves the gesture and the tactility it implies. Playing with chance, slips, and accidents. No longer controlling, disobeying, making stains, splashing around, walking in puddles…
By constantly experimenting, moving towards the unknown, she says she surprises herself.
Mainly using acrylic, she ventures into textures, layers of superimposition, in transparency or thickness, to which collages, imprints, or mysterious writings are sometimes added.
Between abstraction and figuration, her painting questions humanity, which she describes as a poorly raised animal, in the chaotic biotope it has created. With a disordered world in the background, she invites us to the edges of a dreamlike and fanciful universe.
