Diane de Cicco

Of Franco-American origin, Diane de Cicco first studied biology at the University of London and then worked as a researcher in the United States. In 1984, she decided to stop the sciences and study photography, which will bring her from 1991 to the drawing and then to painting via the workshops of the city of Paris. She lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine.
"For me, painting is a form of brainstorming. It is a question of disturbing its a priori and of proliferating the meaning, of letting it germinate and flourish until the evidence is essential. The Intuition is to be taken seriously. What interests me is revealing an unreasoned meaning which is born from my experience, from my wanderings. It is to welcome a serendipity which opens the field of possibilities. Thus, the memory and the emotion gradually arise over the gesture.
From these crossings are born music of notes and silences, interior landscapes revealing an unexplored space-time of the self. I often come back to nature. I have a thirst, a nostalgia for this universe which is less and less present in modern life and which is necessary for me. It is both a flight forward and a remedy against ugliness and violence. "Diane de Cicco
