Words, Nothing But Words

Benjamin Vautier, known as Ben, born on July 18, 1935, in Naples, is a French artist of Swiss origin. Gaining recognition from the public in the late 1960s, especially through his "writings" in various forms, Ben is a prominent figure in the artistic avant-garde, specifically in the post-modern era.

He is a member of the Fluxus group and maintains close ties to lettrism. Ben is recognized for his performances, installations, and distinctive writings.

Pioneer in Post-Duchampian Art

Belonging to the post-Duchampian context and influenced by figures like John Cage, George Maciunas, Dada, and Isidore Isou, Ben poses the question "What to do after Duchamp?". He chooses the entire world as his studio.

His impactful expressions, handwritten in white letters on a black background, become true slogans. The artist doesn't hold back in expressing his opinions on current events, making his views resonate through writing.
