Maggie Royle

Maggie Royle achieved a First Class honours degree from Bristol Polytechnic in Art and Education in 1990, then later studied at Bath Spa University, graduating in 2008 with a Masters in Fine Art (painting).

Working in a spirit of playful improvisation she makes paintings on paper and canvas. Her work is primarily process led and non-representational and makes reference to the history of abstract painting. The paintings feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which are informed by an eclectic range of sources, including memory, imagination, music, travel, things observed, thoughts and events.

Her work has been widely exhibited in the UK; including a solo show in 2022 at That Art Gallery, Bristol. Her paintings have been selected for a number of exhibitions including Discerning Eye, London, Linden Hall Studio, Kent, Sunday Times Watercolour competition, Creekside Gallery London and the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol. She has also shown work in Tbilisi, Georgia.
