Sophie Tebbs

Sophie Tebbs is an artist and printmaker based in Cornwall. She mainly works in monotypes and etching, exploring her relationship with the landscape and its inhabitants.

Sophie studied an Art Foundation diploma in 2019, History of Art at the University of Manchester between 2019 and 2022, and went on to work for a company specialising in social care. After a few years, she left Manchester to pursue a different way of life and landed in a caravan in Cornwall in September 2025. She came to printing at the end of 2025 whilst making some Christmas cards for friends and family.

The majority of her practice is based in a shared studio where she lives, finding ways to print with limited resources, using an old pasta machine as a printing press and reclaimed wallpaper to print on. She uses rags and other tools to wipe ink away to create each image, introducing a gestural quality to her prints, and often a blurred feeling akin to a memory.

Much of her work is inspired by moments that come with living outside through the seasons, and the deepening relationships that she has found with the land, creatures and people around her as a result. She is currently working on developing some short animations in monotype, as well as an etching series of the months of the year.
