Rita Paupério

Rita Paupério (b. 1981, Espinho, Portugal) is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in abstract painting.

She holds a degree in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and has also studied photography, classical ballet, and choreographic creation. Since 2023, she has been developing a regular studio practice. She has exhibited both individually and collectively in Portugal and abroad, and was recently awarded an Honorable Mention at the 8th Espinho Biennial of Contemporary Art. Her work is held in private collections in Portugal and internationally.

Her work intertwines existentialist and poetic reflection, using creation as a form of inquiry into the limits of consciousness and the impermanence of human experience. She values gesture and spontaneity as modes of emotional inscription, constructing non-figurative compositions that function as inner landscapes. Working in layers, she creates open visual systems in which error, chance, and hesitation are embraced as generative elements within a process of constant becoming.
