Mim Clavane is a self-taught artist, originally from Essex and now based in South London. She studied Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, but two years ago, she made the decision to dedicate all her energy and excitement to making art. She recently moved to London after accepting a scholarship for an Alternative Masters in Painting at the Essential School of Painting (ESOP).
Clavane's work focuses on painting people within their own environments, capturing small movements and intimate moments that only the subjects inhabit. The figures are recognizable by their body language and the distinct patterns of their angles and limbs.
Often, the figures are depicted as squeezed, pushing against the edges of the page as they attempt to escape the past and unfold into something completely new.
