Katy Smail lives and works in Glasgow. She was educated at Edinburgh College Of Art and Rhode Island School of Design.
Working primarily in painting, the artist creates work across a range of scales that include canvas, un stretched cloth and wall-based surfaces. Bold, visceral, and tender brush strokes form colourful landscapes that depict the natural world whilst embodying Divine Feminine energy and the deep, collective healing it offers. Her expressive, dreamlike flowers invite us to see the beauty of surrendering to our own wildness, to a wisdom rooted in feeling and intuition. By drawing our attention to the often overlooked, her art becomes a call to reconnect with nature’s quiet yet profound power.
Katy has exhibited internationally, including recent solo shows at North Coast Asylum in Cornwall and Sierra Metro in Edinburgh. After living in Brooklyn, New York for ten years, and a few in London, she is now based back in Scotland. Katy lives with her husband and young son, who shares her love of wildflowers.
