Elly Hadjipateras

Elly Hadjipateras is a self taught oil painter. She specialises in portraits which are based on her emotional connection with her two young adult daughters as well as her own memories of a time in her own life, at a similar age, which was filled with grief, mental instability and depression. Most of her work reflects her daughters’ emotions and moods as they navigate a world that is full of uncertainty and ambivalence and the juxtaposition between outward calm and inner turmoil. She fuses traditional portraiture with an abstract slant to create a tension and intensity and fuses ethereal beauty with more menacing motifs of nature, decaying flowers, abstract shapes that engulf the central figure creating a disturbing ambiguity between beauty and menace.

Elly has exhibited extensively in London including The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Society of British Artists, The Women in Art Fair all at the Mall Galleries. In addition, she was selected twice for the Women in Art Prize, won second place in an exhibition at the Gallery at Green and Stone and first place in an open exhibition at Highgate Contemporary Gallery.
