Emerging from the world of street art, Mr Brainwash has gained international acclaim for his unique blend of graffiti art, painting and bold colour - and for being Banksy’ close collaborator. Born Thierry Guetta, Mr Brainwash is a French-American artist known for his energetic and eclectic style.
His works are characterised by daring colours and pop art references, making them instantly recognisable and highly sought after. The contemporary artist's journey and distinctive approach have captivated art enthusiasts and collectors, driving the demand for original Mr Brainwash's art for sale.
At the age of 15, Mr Brainwash moved to Los Angeles, but it was in 1999 that he fell in love with the unique works of contemporary street art during a trip to France, where he approached his cousin: none other than the street artist Parisien Space Invader. Without any intention to release this precious footage, Mr Brainwash then begins to film all the contemporary graffiti artists by his side.
From observer to street artist himself, he began to practise graffiti and became the Mr Brainwash we know. You might see his unique work as referencing Banksy stencils and Andy Warhol artwork, but the style has been his signature from day one, expanding his works into intricate patterns, unexpected use of spray painting, and mixed media juxtapositions.
In 2009, he met British street artist Banksy and helped him launch his exhibition Barely Legal in Los Angeles, an event that has aroused the interest of street art as a worldwide paradigm shift in the contemporary art industry. The two artists then decided to make a documentary on the universe of street artists, which has so far been surrounded by mystery.
From this collaboration was born the docu-fiction Exit Through the Gift Shop, nominated for an Academy Award. The film presents the meteoric ascent of Mr Brainwash on the scene of Street art, which has since then skyrocketed. In 2010, Mr Brainwash opened his Life Is Beautiful: Icons show in New York City, in which he covered 15,000 square feet of an abandoned warehouse in the Meatpacking District to create a gallery.
After the success of the film, the works of Mr. Brainwash became more and more popular, and his art for sale reached astronomical sums: his portrait of Jim Morrison was sold for $100,000, and that of Charlie Chaplin has been estimated at $50,000. This commercial success is a testament to his impact on contemporary Graffiti and Street Art.
The exponential love for his works didn't stop and recently saw a surge of interest in his portrait of King Charles III, which was released for the Coronation. Mr Brainwash collaborated with Madonna and Rick Ross on album covers and artworks, not to mention hosting a charity project with Michelle Obama for International Women's Day.
His artwork is collected by Al Pacino, Rihanna, and Lionel Richie, and he created an iconic painting with the portrait of LVMH chief Bernard Arnault. His unique works depict the likes of Einstein, Kate Moss, and Marilyn Monroe. Mr Brainwash's art is a vibrant testament to the power of colour and love for graffiti art in contemporary culture. His journey and innovative works continue to inspire and captivate audiences.
