François Cusson

Born in 1957, originally from Les Sables-d'Olonne, François Cusson has lived and worked in Paris since 1968. The Vendée countryside, its tree-lined paths and ditches full of flowers was his first master: portraits of trees, views of fields, haystacks... Then Paris and its wonders: its churches, the Seine: portraits of bridges, quays, portraits of cafés. François Cusson has a taste for rare days when the pure light like crystal makes everything shine, where the contours are sharper, the colors more subtle. So he goes out to spot and sketch the subjects. And then in the studio, to make explode the colors that ferment everywhere but rarely reveal themselves, to capture them and express them in multiple series, expressing them more vividly without distorting them.
