Member of the Taylor Foundation Patrick Briere began painting at the age of 12, using gouache, oil, and ink as his tools. Le Havre, his hometown, is a source of inspiration; he finds the Norman skies so often painted by the Impressionists there. The discovery of the works of Van Gogh and Vlaminck changed his perception of landscape interpretation. Drawing has always occupied his leisure time, and since 2008 he has been fully dedicated to painting. Color and light are an important part of the identity of his painting, in a constant search for synthetic and colorful construction, a desire to convey emotions. His path tends towards the simplification of forms, towards the limits of abstraction, in a harmony of almost Fauvist inspiration. He favors oil on large formats while not abandoning watercolor, which he uses for very spontaneous small formats. He also enjoys scenes of urban life, always colorful, evocations of a fleeting moment. In a constant search, his painting is not fixed. Harmony is a constant basis of work. The important thing is not the subject but the emotion conveyed by the artist. While he mainly exhibits in his region, he is recognized internationally.
