Pierre Dessein

Born and raised in northern France, Pierre Dessein trained as an architect, during which time he developed an interest in art and drawing. With a passion for comic strips, he began drawing caricatures and cartoons at a very early age. At the age of 17, he did a few sketches for a major regional newspaper. At the same time, he explored watercolour and figurative oil painting, gradually incorporating abstract elements into his work. Pierre Dessein's work is now exhibited in numerous galleries across France. He has also taken part in exhibitions in cities such as Vienna, Paris, Lille and Béthune. Inspired by artists such as Zao Wou-Ki and Christian Hook, Dessein follows in the footsteps of lyrical abstraction and tachism, while developing his own unique style. His work, characterised by explorations of light and perspective, incorporates effects of matter and texture that he sculpts with a knife. His compositions evoke seascapes, coastlines bathed in pastel light, urban skyscrapers in shades of amber and steel, or scenes enveloped by the changing atmosphere of the natural elements. His works evoke an atmosphere of contemplation and mystery, inviting the viewer to pause for a moment of silence and contemplation.
