Nicole Rose

Nicole Rose is an abstract artist whose work expresses an emotional response to the natural world. Working across painting and digital media, the artist assembles a whole treasury of inspiration to work from by recording sights, sounds, colours and routes from visits to nature reserves.

Nicole Rose's Artistic Practice

Nicole primarily creates abstract landscape paintings. Colour is her primary material: the interaction between tones, their weight and temperature, the way a palette can evoke a place without depicting it. Her work spans large-scale oil paintings and limited edition prints, linked by a continuous process in which each informs the other. The paintings are abstract, layered oils on canvas, drawn from landscape, light, and the memory of particular places. Many are commissioned for specific settings, composed in response to the materials and light of a space. The prints begin as photographs of finished paintings, reworked digitally to intensify colour and simplify or distort form. They are remixes, not reproductions.

Career & Exhibitions

Nicole graduated from Central St Martins School of Art in 1992 with a BA in Graphic Design. She has had a successful career as a Creative Director, spending over two decades in commercial design as co-founder of a London branding agency. The artist now works from her art studio in North London. Nicole has recently exhibited at The Affordable Art Fair, The Other Art Fair in London and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair as well as being shown in many gallery exhibitions. Nicole's paintings and prints are held in private and corporate collections internationally and commissioned for hospitality, corporate, and residential settings. Recent commissions include the Chancery Rosewood and Park Hyatt London River Thames.
