Egle Saka is a multimedia artist who works in traditional and experimental printmaking, audiovisual and video art. Egle explores themes of distortion and creative destruction with digital media, screenprints and unique large-scale canvas works. As a glitch practitioner, she embraces the accidental and translates it into her own artistic language and visual poetry. Egle graduated from the Academy of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2014 with a BA in Fine Art Printmaking. She then set up her London collaborative print studio, Motif, where she now lives and works.

Egle Saka’s Style and Method

Egle often gravitates towards the nostalgic textures of analogue aesthetics. Although her style is modern, Egle nevertheless uses photographic grain, analogue pixels, or print press halftone patterns in her usually monochromatic print works. These artworks are often composed of graphic decorations and abstract repetitions, motifs intended to capture an aesthetic of error. Egle causes intentional glitches in the system by corrupting digital data or physically manipulating electronic devices. Among her tools, Egle utilises circuit bent video mixers, camera feedback loops and old CRT TV screens. Then, to capture the result, she photographs and records the TV screen. She then takes the resulting raw files and uses them as the foundation for her screenprints, bringing together technology and traditional artistic media.

Under Motif, Egle has exhibited at Cluster Photography & Print Fair, London, UK, 2020; Willesden Green Library, Group Show Exhibition ‘96 to 95’, London, UK, 2018; Saatchi Gallery, London, 2017; and Hong Kong Open Printshop, Hong Kong Zine & Print Fest HKZPF2017 Exhibition, China, 201.
