Mark Chadwick

Mark Chadwick is a British-born artist who specialises in creating vibrant and explosive liquid paintings. Born in 1983, Mark studied Fine Art at Birmingham City University, receiving his BA in 2006 and his MA in 2008. Mark’s abstract style is characterised by great swirls of multicoloured paint, merging together to form a marbled aesthetic. Mark blurs the line between the artist and the machines and explores themes of authorship, and the accidental. The process-led nature of Mark’s paintings allow the paintings in part, to form themselves.

Mark Chadwick’s Inspirations

With a clear nod to Damien Hirst’s spin art, Mark often uses machinery to form his Fluid Paintings. The bold and visceral quality of Mark’s paintings is reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism and Mark’s practice is greatly influenced by the movement, particularly by leading figures, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock and Gerhard Richter. Finding inspiration in anything and everything, Mark’s ‘go to’ is the sky, with its fluid colours and moving formations of clouds making for a natural manifestation of Mark’s art.

Spin Art Success

Building layer upon layer, the quick drying nature of acrylic paint allows Mark to create layers of texture to his work. The success of Mark’s art has led to exhibitions throughout the UK and US and an ever-growing presence online. A YouTube sensation, Mark has a following of upwards of 250,000, with the abstract surface of his paintings inviting viewers to form their own interpretations.
