Magnus Gjoen

Magnus Gjoen is a London-born artist whose paintings put a modern spin on old masterpieces. Taking inspiration from street and pop art, Magnus blends contemporary styles with more traditional fine art. The contrast is refreshing - and on many occasions quite startling! We particularly love those works where Magnus applies traditional imagery to evocative objects like skulls and grenades. There is a strong social commentary underlying these pieces that provokes powerful thought and feeling.

Magnus describes himself as an ‘accidental artist’. After studying art and fashion design, the artist went on to pursue a career in fashion. Funnily enough, it was decorating the walls of his London flat that brought Magnus back into the world of art.

The fashion designer-cum-artist has worked as a graphic designer for Vivienne Westwood, among others. His work has been exhibited at the Hang Up gallery in London as well as on Saatchi online.
