Sasha Makarska is a Ukrainian artist.
Sasha Makarska's primary medium is oil painting. Her main focus is the colour and lightness of colour.
She also creates collages, wall paintings, sculptures and illustrations.
Sometimes, the artist incorporates text and words into her work. Makarska usually works in series. Each of Sasha's exhibitions is a separate project. For example, her first exhibition, Abetka (Tsekh Gallery Catalogue, Kyiv, Ukraine, 2006), comprised 33 pictures, each dedicated to a letter of the Ukrainian alphabet. Her latest solo exhibition, "Canvas, Anger/Hope/Love" (National Museum "Kyiv Art Gallery", Kyiv, Ukraine, 2024), reflects on Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
Sasha graduated from the Department of Temple (Monumental) Painting at the Ukrainian National Academy of Arts under Professor Mykola Storozhenko. Sasha was a member of the "R.E.P." (Revolutionary Experimental Space) group from 2004 to 2006. In 2024 and 2017, she was an artist-in-residence at the Art Residence Velikiy Pereviz in the village of Velikiy Pereviz in the Poltava region of Ukraine. In 2005, she was a resident of the Center for Contemporary Art at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", founded by George Soros in Kyiv, Ukraine.
She has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2019.
