Aurelija Althoffer was born in 1982 in Lithuania, where she studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius. Having settled in France for several years, she actively participates in residencies, symposiums, and exhibitions across Europe. Her work questions time, space, memory, and identity through a painting often characterized by cold tones, creating a poetic distance with the viewer.
Her canvases, at the border of the visible and the invisible, the real and the intuitive, evoke memories, inner states, fragments of everyday life, or dreams. The artist composes silent universes: deserted swings, blurry landscapes, architectural elements. Each image seems suspended, like a freeze-frame after or before an event, suggesting a discreet tension and a diffuse nostalgia.
Aurelija Althoffer invites a slow, meditative observation. She allows space for the spectator's imagination and intimate projections. In her works, the past and the present, the real and the dreamlike intertwine, revealing a discreet, almost secret poetry – that of an inner world where the traces of memory resonate.
