Abigail Bowen
Abigail Bowen is an abstract painter. She creates large-scale fully autonomous paintings to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. The Brighton-born artist graduated in Fine Art (Painting) from Chelsea College of Art in 1996.

Abigail Bowen’s Artistic Process

Inspired by a term in Donna Tartt’s novel, The Goldfinch, Abigail paints ‘the edge of the rainbow’: a space that sits just beyond reality, where ‘all beauty, magic and art exists’. She takes straight to the canvas, birthing her paintings through the intuitive and spontaneous layering of thin and fluid oil paints. Abigail begins her process with a word, feeling or passage of text. Then, taking her stimuli, she visualises the subsequent emotions in colour, form and scale. The resulting abstract works capture a ghostly, spiritual or amorphous presence - representing a portal into the subconscious. In this way, all of her paintings are unique and influenced by multiple variables; ideas, frustrations, happiness and the story of the process that created it.

Exhibitions

Abigail has exhibited prolifically in recent years. Exhibitions include The Affordable Art Fair, represented by Hicks Gallery, Battersea, London, (2019), Hicks Gallery (2019), Art on The Mind, Proud Galleries, London (2019), The Other Art Fair, London (2019), and The Affordable Art Fair Stockholm (2018). The artist was also a finalist in the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Award (2018). Her work has been sold in the UK and internationally.
