Birgit Fechner’s Style and Practice
Her style is characterised by a collage-like technique, building up and subtracting layers of oils, glazes, and transparent materials - the latter serving to reveal what lies under the surface. In this way, Birgit draws out the complexity of life, giving form to the contradictions and difficulties of assessing and categorising reality. From her paintings, smaller paper and ceramic works often arise too.
Exhibitions and Collections
Birgit has exhibited throughout Berlin. Her works are in collections such as the prestigious Donna McMillan Collection, Palm Springs, USA, Copelouzos Family Art Museum, Athens, Greece, and Collection Slembek, Essen. Birgit studied Eastern European Studies at the Free University of Berlin. She was also a member of the artist group ZYX Berlin (actions, performances, exhibitions, and projects) from 1990 to 1997.
