Michael Darling

Michael Darling

“I draw and paint in response to the nature around me and create linescapes with their own rules, rhythms and spaces.“

Plein-air drawings of trees, plants, single leaves and landscapes provide the visual foundation for predominantly abstract works. Dynamic lines and strong colours dominate – while flames, leaves and lips are often prevalent motifs.

Born 1961 in North London, Michael Darling's early studies began with an art foundation course in High Wycombe followed by a combined Fine Art (painting) and English Literature course at Exeter University and Exeter College of Art & Design, England.

His first work experience was drawing, painting and curating at the Spacex Gallery in Exeter moving on to commercial art and design work for the music industry in London.

Munich has been his home since 1990 initially working exclusively for Condé Nast publishers designing, illustrating and art directing the German editions of Vogue and GQ.

His Bavarian studio has been a creative workspace for art and design projects, drawing courses, events and exhibitions since 2000.

Most recently he has been exhibiting drawings, paintings and prints at European Art Fairs collaborating with the Dreipunkt Edition Gallery in Germany, Austria and Sweden.

His works appear in private collections throughout Europe.
