Jane completed her BA in Fine Art at Central St Martins and a three year post-graduate Painting Correspondence Course with Turps Art School, London.
The studio is a place of improvisation, contemplation and playfulness as Jane moves between painting, collage and sculpture. Working with abstraction, she uses simple areas of colour, contrasted with gestural brushstrokes.
The collages and sculptures start with painted paper, canvas, or pieces of wood. Each piece has its own identity and Jane…Show more aims to hold on to that idea. The goal is not to produce a harmonious, balanced composition, though that might happen by accident. Each coloured object is allowed a space of its own in relation to the other pieces. Larger paintings are made by borrowing thoughts, colours and marks from the smaller work in the studio.
Present in the process is the notion of Kairos, the opportune moment. The fragments of possibility in an elastic space of contemplation where ideas jostle and sidle up to one another. Jane is interested in the inherent mutability of things, that nothing is fixed in appearance or interpretation.
