Lauren Baker is a British contemporary multidisciplinary artist based in London. Her work explores symbolism, higher states of consciousness, and communion with nature and the elements. Delving into human connection, metaphysics, and the vastness of the universe, her practice aims to raise the vibration of love and unity in the world. Baker holds a degree in Business, Psychology, and Sociology, reflecting her deep interest in human connection, collective consciousness, and the dynamics of communities—core themes that shape her artistic practice.
UNIVERSAL SECRETS
Passionate about environmental issues and sustainability, Baker uses light to express the 'secrets of the universe,' creating conceptually grounded yet visually striking works that make the unseen seen. Her signature style often incorporates emitting or reflecting light, referencing the frequencies of astronomical bodies, plants, human organs, and chakras. A sense of mystery and emergence—of connecting to something far greater than the material world—pulsates throughout her work.
NOTABLE WORKS & EXHIBITIONS
Baker has created installations at the European Cultural Centre during the Venice Biennale, at Tate Modern, and The V&A. Her artistic journey began in 2011 with a transformative trip to South America, where she joined a mosaic street-art project in Brazil and participated in shamanic ceremonies in the Peruvian Amazon. She later refined her mosaic skills in Venice (Orsoni, 2012) and specialized in Site-Specific Installations at The Art Academy, London (2017). Her work is held in collections worldwide.
Known for her large-scale public art installations that blend environmental themes, symbolism, and celestial inspiration, Baker unveiled Consciousness Awakening, a 2-meter bronze sculpture resembling a tree with eyes, at the Venice Biennale 2024, and battled storms to install her 10-meter Wisdom Totems at Burning Man 2023. Her Luna Woman Power Totem, a 3.3-meter light installation honoring the suffragette movement, stands in Palmers Green, London. Collaborating with BMW Culture X Frieze in 2020, she launched One Thought Changes Everything, and her sun- and moon-inspired sculptures were placed in a UNESCO site in Saudi Arabia. Known for her uplifting neon typography, she created a 7.5-meter neon across Surrey St Bridge in London in 2017, and her work has been showcased at institutions like the V&A, Tate Britain, and Tate Modern.
