Marc Laffolay

Whether it is painting, sculpture, or writing, Marc Laffolay seeks the direct gesture, both meditative and instinctual. He tries to banish any intervention of the mind, to favor the spontaneous act, sincerity, without conscious reference to styles and other trends. For him, these are the conditions of authenticity. His work is essentially influenced by what touches on life in its timelessness, by this passage of time that shapes us.

He sees the evolution of his artistic practice as a path, a journey, a sensitive adventure. Our era of omnipresent zapping would push us to seek novelty for the sake of novelty. A forward flight, a fear of emptiness from which the art world is not exempt. This translates into a strong pressure that he tries to ignore.

"The evolution of my work is nothing but the sequence of new steps on the path. A walk, a process, a search as well."

Because life is movement, Marc Laffolay needs, in continuity, to see his work progress, to search, to try, to leave new traces on the walls. Thus, his entire work integrates both sculpture, painting, drawing, and writing. Because stemming from the same crucible, this diversity is all relative and ultimately falls under a single global and coherent approach.

"The practice of such different disciplines allows me to find a form of balance, to walk on both legs. For me, they complement each other, nourish each other, and ... make the labels dance!"

Marc Laffolay is based in Picardy, France. His works are present in numerous private collections (France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain, Holland, South Africa, Canada, USA, Singapore, Middle East…).
