Alexander Korzer-Robinson is a UK-based artist whose work transforming antiquarian books has brought him international acclaim. Working mainly in collage and related techniques, the practice's focus are sculptural artworks made from antiquarian books. The base material for his "cut book sculptures" are old books that have been stripped of their utilitarian value by the passage of time. Working through a book, page by page, a new compostion is formed using only the contents of the original volume. Alexander Korzer-Robinson: 'The use of antiquarian books makes the work at the same time an exploration and a deconstruction of nostalgia. We create our own past from fragments of reality in a process that combines the wilful aspects of remembering and forgetting with the coincidental and unconscious.'
