Joe Webb

Brighton-based artist Joe Webb creates handmade collages with a message. Using imagery found in vintage magazines, adverts and printed ephemera, Joe tackles issues of inequality, global warming and consumer culture with his thought-provoking work. Sometimes only using two or three different images, Joe’s approach is considered and refined as he transforms and redirects the narratives of found imagery. Primarily existing in print form, Joe’s art has become an online sensation due to its unique and surrealist visual aesthetic.

Joe Webb’s Career and Inspiration

Joe’s surrealist collages have caught the eye of musicians and galleries alike. Whilst his original prints and collages are displayed at The Saatchi Gallery, Joe has also created album artwork for the likes of The Madden Brothers and Tears For Fears, and he has recently animated versions of his collages for Dua Lipa. Music is unsurprisingly at the heart of Joe’s practice, and he cites Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Brian Eno as some of his greatest musical inspirations.

Exhibitions

Over the past few years, Joe has exhibited throughout the UK, with numerous shows at Hang-Up Gallery and Jealous Gallery in London. At the beginning of 2020 Joe exhibited Earthlings, which marked his third solo show with Jealous Gallery. With a focus on the cosmos, Joe explored the human experience and our perception of reality. His surrealist arrangement encouraged the viewer to reflect on environmental issues, whilst his juxtaposition of images injected a dark and humorous tone into the collection.
