Jodie Camus is a dye artist, graduated from EESAB (Rennes site) in 2022, after a stint at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Her practice revolves around plant dyeing, which she seeks to reclaim and shift the codes, particularly through processes related to textile oxidation. She develops research based on field observation and experimental protocols where material, time, and environmental conditions play an active role.
Trained by Michel Garcia and Aurore Pellisson, she relies on knowledge of plant dyeing processes to question how a territory imprints its ecological, climatic, and social characteristics into color.
Her work is based on lived experiences and a particular attention to micro-variations and often imperceptible details. Subjectivity becomes a tool to convey a sensitive experience and evoke shared perceptions.
Mobility occupies an important place in her approach. The different work and residency contexts (at the Lieutenance of Honfleur, at the Maison Louis David on the Arcachon basin, or more recently in Sardinia with the French Institute) nourish a reflection on the diversity of landscapes and the intertwining of ecological environments. Through slow and attentive processes, Jodie Camus explores time, impermanence, and our ways of inhabiting the world.
