Sam Haynes is a mid-career artist based in London, working with sculpture, photography and installation. With an Art in Architecture MA from the University of East London, her playful, geometric, abstract work expresses a dynamic character with a finely balanced aesthetic.
She began her professional practice as a public artist in the 90's, designing site specific installations across the UK. Drawing upon this broad experience, she launched her new photo print series of sculptural assemblages at the beginning of 2021, with exhibitions in London, Rome and Barcelona. In 2023 she had her first solo show at the Bloom Gallery, London, exhibiting site responsive sculptures alongside her photo assemblages.
With a love of materials, working both with found objects and larger scale metalwork constructions, Haynes effectively moves between 2 and 3D formats, exploring the tension created between balance and counter balance. While her practice is process led, taking the objects and materials as the primary focus, the resulting artwork becomes a metaphor for human connection, suggesting an emotional core.
Haynes has been longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize in the photography category in 2025/26, celebrating the highest level of international contemporary art practice today.
She has worked as an artist facilitator for many years, which continues to influence her practice, with a focus on accessibility, engaging marginalised communities across the UK.
