Gavin Weir

Gavin Weir is a realistic painter who investigates light, space and experience. Often moving between subject matter and creative media, Gavin's sensitive yet detailed works stand out for their minimalist elegance.

Gavin Weir’s Training and Influences

Gavin studied General Art & Design at Bournemouth & Poole Polytechnic (1992- 1994) and obtained a BA Honours in Fine Art (Drawing & Painting) from Brighton University (1994- 1997). The artist also has a P.G.C.E (Teacher Training) qualification at Strathclyde University (2002 - 2003). He takes inspiration from diverse artists such as Giovanni Canaletto, Vilhelm Hammershoi and Clive Head.

Signature Style

Working from observation, Gavin seeks to find a present truth through realism. Whether capturing landscapes, portraits, Still Life, urban scenes or trees, Gavin hones his signature painterly technique - one that approaches abstraction through experimenting with depth of field and challenging viewpoints. A key focus in Gavin's work is Scottish topography, where the artist is based. His panoramic vistas offer dynamic and dramatic sweeping landscapes, often presented from multiple perspectives.

Collectable Art

Gavin's imaginative paintings are sought after by collectors looking for compelling contemporary art. He has produced several artworks for multiple private commissions, including top tier businesses and private collections worldwide, from Europe and Australia to Canada and the USA.
